The photographs on each card make the situations instantly recognizable, which is exactly what my daughter needs before she can even read the story. We've already worked through several cards together and I've noticed her pausing to think before reacting.

My son used to freeze up when another kid grabbed a toy, and now he actually pauses and works through it. The photo on each card gives him something concrete to look at while we talk through the situation, which keeps him from shutting down.

The photographs on each card do most of the work here — my students study the facial expressions before I even finish reading the story aloud. I've been using them in small groups, and the situations feel realistic enough that the kids start offering their own examples.
